But can she trust Ethan when Beau won’t stay buried in the past? When a freak accident releases four demons, including the one she shares an intimate connection with, Cady must rely on her new training to fight the good fight when Ethan’s loyalty is called into question. With the threat of Ash on the horizon, Rikard is more than eager to lend a hand – and any other part of his anatomy. Who will Cady choose to fight by her side, and who will she keep in her heart?

Here’s a taste of The Company of Death:

Cady was still arranging her covers when Rikard stripped down to his boxers and started to get into the other side of the bed. “What do you think you’re doing?”

“Getting some sleep.”

“The couch pulls out into a bed.”

“Have you ever slept in one of those pull out beds before? No thanks,” he snorted.

“Fine, then I will.” Two could play at that game.

Rikard rolled over onto his side, his chest exposed as he faced her. “I’ve really gotten to you, haven’t I?”

“What’re you talking about?” Cady scowled, trying to decide if she wanted to steal the comforter or just the pillows for the couch.

“You can’t even trust yourself to lie next to me?”

“It’s not me I don’t trust.”

“What do you think I’m going to do while you’re asleep?”

Cady looked up at him, barely able to make out his features in the dim light. “I don’t know, that’s the point.”

“What if I swear upon my honor not to lay a hand on you?”

“It’s not your hands I’m worried about.”

His teeth flashed white as he laughed. “Stay or go as you choose, but I promise, I’ll behave.”

Cady lingered, unsure what to do. He had a point, she wasn’t sure she trusted herself around him. Her judgment tended to fly out the window whenever he removed his shirt. “Fine, but you have to stay on your side of the bed.”

“No problem. But feel free to come and visit all you like.”

“Fat chance of that,” she scoffed, settling in beside him. The room seemed oppressively quiet after that, with nothing but the sounds of their breathing and the faint murmur of the highway outside the window. Gradually, she started to relax though, his deep breathing having a soothing effect on her.

“Goodnight, John,” she sighed, rolling over onto her stomach.

“Goodnight, Cady,” he replied, and she could feel him smiling in the dark.

Here’s the blurb:
Cady and Ethan are on the run from the Company, but there’s no escaping the trouble they brought with them. The demon Cady was bound with isn’t as dormant as they first thought, and it’s desperate to be free. How many times will Cady have to wake up in strange circumstances before she realizes her life isn’t her own? Crippled without his usual contacts, Ethan is desperate to hold onto Cady and find the help she needs – but is it enough? Is Rikard the one who can keep Cady safe and satisfy the demon inside her? Layer upon layer of deceit muddy the waters until it’s impossible to find the right path. In the end, Cady is left with a terrible choice – submit to the Company or the demon who’s taken over her life.

What the heck is StoryBundle? I admit, I had no idea before I was approached to be a part of this paranormal bundle, but it’s a cool idea. You set the price you think the books are worth, you set the amount you think the authors deserve (yep, if you want to give the authors 100% of the royalties, you can!), you can even designate some of your purchase price to go to charity if you like! This is a great way to support indie authors and try some new books at a great price.

The basic bundle includes (minimum $3 to purchase):

•	Hidden Salem by Kiki Howell
•	Seven Years by Dannika Dark
•	The Company of Shadows by Lisa Olsen
•	Genesis by Kristie Cook

If you pony up at least $10, you’ll get another three books:

•	Broken: A Paranormal Romance by David H. Burton
•	Sterling by Dannika Dark
•	Moonsong by Lisa Olsen

The bundle is available for a very limited time only, via http://www.storybundle.com/romance. It allows easy reading on computers, smartphones, and tablets as well as Kindle and other ereaders via file transfer, email, and other methods. You get multiple DRM-free formats (.epub, and .mobi) for all books, but after the three weeks are over, the over, the bundle is gone forever!

Here’s a summary from StoryBundle on why their bundles rock, but you can get more info by going to the website directly:
Why StoryBundle? Here are just a few benefits StoryBundle provides.

•	Get quality reads: We’ve chosen works from excellent authors to bundle together in one convenient package.
•	Pay what you want (minimum $3): You decide how much four fantastic books are worth to you. If you can only spare a little, that’s fine! You’ll still get access to four thrilling titles.
•	Support authors who support DRM-free books: StoryBundle is a platform for authors to get exposure for their works, both for the titles featured in the bundle and for the rest of their catalog. Supporting authors who let you read their books on any device you want—restriction free—will show everyone there’s nothing wrong with ditching DRM.
•	Give to worthy causes: Bundle buyers have a chance to donate a portion of their proceeds to charity. We’re currently featuring Mighty Writers and Girls Write Now.
•	Receive extra books: If you beat our bonus price, you’re not just getting four books, you’re getting seven!

StoryBundle was created to give a platform for independent authors to showcase their work, and a source of quality titles for thirsty readers.

The other day I posted an interview with Cady thanks to some fantastic questions I got from Laveda. Here are Ehtan’s responses to more of the same.

Ethan~ First impression of Cady.
Loud. Not that she has a big mouth, exactly, but the walls were thin and I could hear her through them from time to time. It’s distracting. She’s so young and full of life… it’s overwhelming sometimes. It dazzles you, like staggering into the sunlight after spending too long in the darkness, chasing after slithering things.

Ethan~ Why did you let Cady in? Not only in your crazy world, but in your heart. You knew that it would be dangerous for her yet, you still did it. Also, when DID you let her in your heart?
To be honest I never would’ve let her in if I hadn’t been about to pass out from the rusty knife stuck under my ribs. I never would’ve given her my real name and I for damn sure never would’ve let her take me home if she hadn’t already known where I live. But for whatever reason our paths crossed and she stuck with me for the whole night even though I kept asking her to leave. I didn’t want to fall for her, I kept telling myself she wasn’t for me, but she has this way of worming her way into your heart. No, not worming, that sounds bad. I wanted too keep her out of it, but then I had to keep her safe from Ash and all of a sudden, bam… I was a goner. I never stood a chance. I’m not exactly sure when it happened, but I realized how far gone I was when she left everything behind to be with me without stopping to think twice about it.

Ethan~ What’s up with the invisible tatts? Why can Cady see them, but no one else?
*shifts uncomfortably* You’re not supposed to know about those. As near as I can tell, she can see them because she’s been tainted by demon blood, but that’s just a theory.

Ethan~ Can you tell us what it’s like to do a binding ritual? You also talk about off loading demons, can you explain that process as well? I’d like to know what it feels like for a demon to enter/exit your body.
No, trust me, you really don’t. You’re not supposed to know about any of this. Let’s just say neither one of them are very fun.

Ethan~ What is the most amount of demons you’ve had in you at one time? What is the most anyone has carried at one time? Is there a limit to how many they will let you hold? Any side effects to holding too many at one time?
I’ve had as many as eight demons bound to me before. I have no idea what the record is, but I know Rikard has had more than that before. I suppose there’s a limit because the Company doesn’t want any one person getting too powerful, but there are no side effects that I’m aware of.

Ethan~ While Cady was in the astral plain with Ash, you could hear everything she was saying to him. What are your thoughts on that conversation?
I wasn’t happy about the promises she made to him, to see him again. I didn’t like… I can’t help but feel like there’s a connection there, no matter what she says about it.

Ethan~ Can you tell us anything more about the company? Or is that a no no?
I can neither confirm nor deny anything you may or may not have heard about the Company.

Ethan~ Now that everything is over with Ash, what happens now? For you individually and together.
For me it’s business as usual. Wait to get him offloaded onto another host, wait for my next assignment. Not a lot to do before that happens. As for Cady and me… we’ve got to keep things as quiet as possible. I don’t like the fact that Rikard’s taken an interest in her. The less she has to do with the Company, the better.

Favorite music?
I like to listen to a lot of oldies, The Stones, Creedence, The Doors, Jimmy Page and Led Zeppelin, stuff like that.

How do you decompress?
I have a lot of downtime between assignments, and it’s important to stay in shape, so I spend a lot of time training. But I guess I like to kick back with a beer and watch a movie to relax. Lately I spend more time watching the girl next to me than the movie, but that’s relaxing in its own way.

Describe Cady in three words.
Pushy, smart-ass, too naïve for her own good sometimes, no matter how streetwise she pretends to be. Shit, that’s more than three. Okay, how about perfect?

What would your perfect future be?
That’s a hard one. We’re trained not to look too far to the future. I guess I’d just like one with Cady in it. That would be perfection.

Hey guys! Just in time for the release of The Company of Darkness, we have some fun interview questions from Laveda for Cady and Ethan from The Company series. I’ll post Cady’s first and Ethan’s answers in a few days. Also, if you leave a question or two for them in the comments, they just might answer yours as well!

Cady~ First impression of Ethan.
When I first, first saw him or that night at Inferno? When I first, first saw him, I thought he was cute, but always in a hurry. I didn’t particularly take notice of him. I probably wouldn’t have noticed him in the club at all if the girls hadn’t pointed him out with their stupid game. I never thought he looked like a homeless guy though, he’s way too clean for that. My first impression when I first talked to him was that he didn’t like me much. Except he did call me pretty, even if he said I was distracting him and kind of scowly at the time. And he was so polite… No, thank you this and no, thank you that. I wasn’t even offering him anything, I just wanted to talk for a minute.

Cady~ Ethan’s your neighbor, right? So why was at the bar the first time you’re meeting?
Well, like I said, he always seemed in a hurry, his head down, not really the friendly type. I’d smiled at him in the laundry room before and nothing, so I just figured he wasn’t interested.

Cady~ It had to be a crazy scary experience for you, the night you were attacked by Claudio. What was going on in your head? I especially want to know what was going on inside your head when Ethan impaled a knife through Claudio’s hand through his own while speaking a foreign language. He also ends up killing him, were you not freaked out? Why were you not scared of Ethan?
It was a crazy scary night, for sure. First of all I was freaked out over Claudio’s hypnotism or whatever he tried with me that made me want to go home with him in the first place. I do not go home with strange men, I’m not that kind of a girl. One moment I’m trying to drag Penny away from him and the next I’m ready to pull him into the parking lot and tear his clothes off with my teeth. So when I finally snapped out of it and Ethan showed up, I was all kinds of glad to see him. It all happened kind of fast after that. The next thing you know Ethan’s stabbing the guy through both of their clasped hands while chanting something straight out of Sunday school – it was the most bizarre thing I’d ever seen until Claudio sliced his own neck with the tip of the knife. Ethan didn’t want him dead, I’m sure of it. Plus, I thought Ethan was a cop, you know. I couldn’t leave him bleeding in the parking lot after he’d just saved me from… whatever. I had to help him. It was the right thing to do.

Cady~ While in your dreams with Ash, he asks you to show him what you desire most, in a man. He sees flaws in your choice and asks why you would pick someone so flawed. You tell him, sometimes the beauty is in the flaws. Tell me, what flaws of Ethan’s are most beautiful to you?
If it was up to Ash he’d look like an underwear model, all airbrushed and perfect, but that’s not what I want.
I like a guy who looks like he’s lived a real life, not that pretty boy you see on TV or the movies. Just looking at Ethan, you can tell he’s seen things and done things, made decisions that haunt him and it’s more than the tattoos or the way his nose looks like it’s been broken before or anything about his appearance really. I love the way he looks at me. Like… he wants to touch me, but is almost afraid to, sometimes, like he’ll screw things up just by getting involved. There’s a core of sadness there, like a lost little boy who doesn’t think he deserves to be loved. It makes me want to give him a big hug and tell him everything will be okay. I know that’s nuts, right? Here he is, this big bad demon hunter and I’m the one who wants to do the comforting.

Cady~ Do you still have any feelings for Ash, even ones you don’t mean or want to have?
No, of course not! I could never have feelings for such a monster. What kind of a person would that make me? Just because I let him get close to me… I didn’t know what he was when he came to me in my dreams, that he was a murdering… I do not have feelings for Ash. Except maybe pity. No, not even that, he doesn’t deserve my pity, not after what he put me through. I couldn’t care less if he deluded himself into thinking he loves me, he doesn’t even know the meaning of the word. *sits and stares at nothing for a moment* I don’t have any feelings for Ash.

Cady~ Now that everything is over with Ash, what happens now? For you individually and together.
I finally got a real job instead of having to work at Spanky’s. It sucks having to get up so early, and paying taxes is pretty depressing, but it’s nice to work in a place where guys aren’t ogling my goodies. As for together, Ethan and I have to keep things on the down low. So my friends basically think I’m single again. You do not want to know what happened when they ambushed me with a blind date.

Favorite color?
Green.

How do you decompress?
I like to chill and listen to music, read or watch movies. I love movies! Just about any kind of movie, I don’t care how sucky it is.

Describe Ethan in three words.
Sweet, intense, mine.

What would your perfect future be?
I don’t know, that’s a good question for Gobi maybe. I try not to think too much about the future, you never know what will happen. I used to think my life would end up a certain way and when it didn’t… I think it’s better not to get too worked up over a dream future that might never happen. I like where I am now, even if it wasn’t what I would’ve wished for. Isn’t that all that matters?

We finally got The Company of Shadows approved for print! So, for all you out there who prefer to hold the physical book in your hands (and it is pretty!), you can buy it on Amazon.com here.

This one started out as a stand alone book, but it’s turned out to be the first in a new series. The next one will be coming later this year. It’s about a demon hunter and his too-curious-for-her-own-good neighbor. It’s got sexy demons, magic, a brooding hero with a dark secret, intrigue, body switching, mythology, tattoos, cheese whiz, you name it. Here’s a taste:

In general, Cady didn’t have trouble talking to guys. Outgoing by nature, she figured the worst that could happen was he could tell her to F off, and she could at least say she’d tried. Still, she hadn’t approached a total stranger like that before, usually there was some other pretense that had her offering the first words. Something like… I love your jacket, do you ride a motorcycle? But what could she say to this guy? He looked like he was dressed from Salvation Army castoffs.

“Hi, I don’t think I’ve seen you in here before,” Cady approached, smiling past the inner cringe at the lamest pick up line ever.

“No, thank you.”

Not what she’d expected to hear. “I wasn’t offering anything.” A furrow appeared on her brow, he hadn’t even looked at her.

“It’s just a general no, thank you.” He offered the barest of smiles before returning his eyes to the crowd. “I’m not here to pick up girls.”

“Oh, are you into guys?” Cady sat beside him, the brief smile and oddly polite rejection piquing her curiosity. He didn’t outwardly object to her taking a seat, but he didn’t look thrilled about it either.

“I’m not here to pick up anybody,” he growled, letting out a sigh that could have meant anything from a deep heartache to indigestion. “So, go try someone else.”

Cady’s eyes darted back to her table to get a thumbs up and an encouraging grin from Penny. Kelli was already making eyes at the mad dancer she’d spotted before. “I’m not trying to pick you up either.”

That earned her the first look from him that lasted longer than half a second, and it came with a raised brow. “You’re not?”

“Okay, maybe I did say hello under false pretenses,” she allowed with a flap of the hand. “Do you see my two friends over there?”

His gaze never shifted, but he described them well enough. “Petite brunette, dressed like a widow, and the bottle blonde, five six, her ass hanging out on the dance floor?”

Her head craned back in time to see that Kelli was indeed out on the dance floor, shaking her booty. “Then you were checking us out.”

“Not particularly.” He shrugged a single shoulder.

“Um…” Not quite sure what to make of that, she plunged ahead. “Anyway, I sort of promised I’d try to pick you up, but I’m not really. It’s just to get them off my back, and Penny thinks you’re safe because we’re neighbors.”

“That’s the most ridiculous argument I’ve ever heard.” He didn’t bother to keep the scorn from his voice and it earned her another look. “Why would I be safe because we live in the same building?”

Even though she’d expressed the same doubt not two minutes before, she couldn’t help but try and defend her friend’s position. “Well, because… if you tried anything I could always tell the cops where you live.”

“And that would make whatever sicko attack I could dream up okay?”

“No, but you wouldn’t attack me, knowing I could turn you in. It’s a natural deterrent, see?” Her winsome smile didn’t appear to have any effect on him.

“Only if you survived it.”

“My friends know you’re my neighbor, they’d report me missing if I didn’t turn up for work tomorrow.”

“Big comfort that would be to your friends and family after I murdered you in cold blood.”

Her head canted to one side as she wondered how they’d strayed to that particular topic. “Do you often kill girls who pick you up in clubs?”

“Not usually, but I’m beginning to understand the appeal,” he muttered, shaking his head. He looked over at her and she got the feeling he was truly seeing her for the first time, his eyes giving her as frank an appraisal as she’d given him before lingering on the delicate gold cross that hung around her neck. His face softened, and when he met her eyes again, his tone was earnest. “Look, whatever this is, no thank you. The safest thing you can do is take your girlfriends out of here and go home. In a group, together. In fact, you shouldn’t be out in a place like this at all.”

He was starting to sound like her brother. “I can take care of myself.” Before he could reply with what she was sure would be a cutting remark, she changed the subject. “What are you doing in here anyway? Besides not picking up girls or guys?”

“I’m… working,” he replied after a moment’s hesitation.

All at once the reason for his protective disinterest hit her. “Are you a cop?”

“Something like that.”

“Why didn’t you say so?” Cady relaxed beside him. It made perfect sense to her, a cop would find the neighborhood dangerous for a girl her age, and it explained his hyper-vigilance. “You know, it actually helps with your stakeout in a club if you’re seen talking to a girl. Otherwise you stick out like a sore thumb.”

“You think so?” A half smile tugged at the corner of his mouth. “Been on many stakeouts have you?”

“Oh yeah, I’m an old hand at them. My dad was a cop back in the day. He used to take my brother and I with him plenty of times.”

“I’ll bet.” His eyes narrowed, but at least they were focused on her for a change. “What kind of a cop takes his kids into a dangerous situation like that?”

“The kind who can’t afford a babysitter?” she grinned, and he shook his head in amusement.

“Let me guess, you saw the back seat of a cop car a few times and now you think you know all about surveillance?”

“I know the trick is to blend in, to not look like you’re there just to watch. Which you are failing at, by the way. You look like you belong in the alley behind the club, not inside it.”

He frowned down at his jacket. “I’m not trying to blend in, I’m here to make sure nothing bad happens. There’s something to be said for a visible deterrent, you know.”

“Then why not show up in your uniform and flash your badge around? Besides, what are you expecting to stop from here? Everybody knows the drugs go down by the bathrooms.”

“I’m not here because of the drugs, I’m here…” he stopped, eyes darting back to the crowd. “Shit… I’m here letting myself getting distracted by a pretty girl instead of doing my job.”

“You think I’m pretty?” Cady’s smile returned at the backhanded compliment, but he didn’t seem to realize he’d given it. His attention was fixated on something else and she turned to see if she could spot it, but everything looked normal to her. There was no sign of Kelli anywhere, and Cady realized she’d been gone longer than she intended. Penny must be… sitting with Rico Suave, chatting up a storm and… flirting?

“You should get back to your friend before she makes a serious mistake.” He seemed to echo her thoughts. But how did he know Penny wasn’t free to flirt in a club with a sexy stranger?

“She’ll be alright, trust me. She’s just being friendly.”

“Very friendly,” he replied in a flat tone and Cady had to agree. Penny was being uncharacteristically touchy feely, laying her hand on the guy’s arm, leaning in close while she talked to him. It was like she and Kelli had switched bodies.

“Okay, but she’s engaged,” Cady insisted, not sure who she was trying to convince more, him or herself. “There’s no way she’s about to leave with that guy.” Except that they both rose from the table together. “I’d better go.”

“Be careful, he isn’t what he seems.”

Hey guys! I know I’ve been late on coming out with this post, but as you know, things have been crazy busy. As usual, I always cast the main characters in my books with who I’d like to see play them in a movie or television show. Sometimes it’s not physically possible (like I’ll see Sam as Jude Law – but from fifteen years ago), but it still helps with how I hear them in my head. Here is who I pictured while writing my new demon hunter series, The Company of Shadows.

Cady Garrett – Lyndsy Fonseca: If you’ve ever watched the show Nikita, you know she can kick serious ass, but I like some of her softer looks from other things like Kickass for Cady. I wanted a girl with streetsmarts, but not completely jaded, and I think Lyndsy can play that touch of innocence.

Ethan Shaw – Jeremy Renner: I went back and forth on this one a lot, and finally settled on a younger Jeremy Renner. He’s got that stoic charisma while still being utterly compelling to watch even in his quiet moments. I think he could convey Ethan’s bewilderment and discomfort at finding Cady thrust into his life and the gradual change as he discovers how much he needs her.

Ian Garrett – Shane West: Can you tell I was watching a lot of Nikita when I was dreaming this one up? I really like the chemistry between him and Lyndsy on the show and I could easily see him taking on the big brother role. He’s got that tough guy exterior down too, and it was easy to picture some of the menacing looks he’d give Ethan for messing with his sister.

Kelli Matthews – Anna Faris: I picture her as she looked in House Bunny, all blond hair and itty bitty clothes. She’s got that bubbly personality down with just a touch of sluttiness, but you still want to hang out with her to see what she’ll do next.

Rikard – Barry Sloane: I dunno, he just popped into mind the first time I conceived of the character. He just looks like an asshole in sheep’s clothing.

Gobi – Matthew Lillard: Cast your mind back to his role in Hackers with the crazy braids and Salvation army style clothes. I know he could bring his unique sense of wacky charm to the role. Seriously though, does this guy ever age?

Dylan Walsh – Johnny Depp: Who else could look completely seedy like a 70′s pimp but still slightly doable?

Asherik – Raul Bova/Jensen Ackles/Tom Hardy: Ah the many faces of Ash! For the dark intensity of his Claudio body, I saw Raul Bova. It’s easy to see how he could get any woman to fall at his feet. As Alex (the guy who approached her in the laundromat) he chose a guy who looked like Jensen Ackles. Good looking, but a little rougher around the edges once he got a better idea what her tastes were like. And as for the dream lover, her perfect man, Cady chose someone like Tom Hardy. He’s not pretty boy handsome, but there’s a quirky charm to his face (I especially like the crooked teeth!), and his musclebound tattoos lend him a sexy, dangerous allure.

So there you have it! I hope you enjoyed seeing these pics, I’d love to hear from you as to how you’ve pictured them while reading it (and I’d love a review on Amazon even more, there are only 2 so far!). I’ll be working on the sequel to this one late in the year.

My new book is out! The Company of Shadows is now available for sale on Amazon! It should be up at Barnes and Noble in a day or so, their process is a little slower. It’s out as an e-book for $3.99 but you don’t have to have a Kindle or Nook to read it, they have free downloadable apps so you can read it on your PC, or even your phone. It’ll be available in print as well in a few weeks through Amazon.

Here’s the sitch:

Cady Garrett can’t help but be shaken when next door neighbor, Ethan, shows up in the nick of time to save her from a ruthless killer, spouting mumbo jumbo. Even more disturbed when the killer slits his own throat to escape Ethan after a vicious struggle. Curiously, Ethan insists on leaving before the dead killer returns, even though he can barely stand on his feet. Nursing him back to health, Cady is drawn into a world of half truths and mysteries, where shadows hide more than the seedy underbelly of San Francisco’s Tenderloin district. She has become the obsession of a darker power, and no one, not even Ethan, can keep her safe from his twisted desires.

I’m already working on the next in my Forged Bloodlines vampire series, Miss Me When the Sun Goes Down, but it’ll be slower going since we just sold our house, and I’ll be knee deep in packing and coordinating stuff for the next couple of months.

Stay tuned for some dream casting, and a sneak peek of what Anja will be up to next!
