Ah Vampire Diaries, You Cruel Mistress!
I have just watched the season premiere of Vampire Diaries and all I can say is Holy Crap they packed a powerful punch this episode! I know you’re probably all reeling with me about the big wedge that’s been driven between Damon and Elena now and it kills me that they took that direction, but I can understand it from the show’s perspective. I guess we’ll just have to continue to get our Delena fix from fanfics. When did I turn into a fangirl? *sigh*
I’m thinking about posting a recap of the Vampire Diaries episodes this season. I’ve never tried that before and part of me thinks it might be a new sign of insanity on my part to take on another writing project, but part of me thinks it might be kinda fun. I’ll think it over this weekend and try it out, see if it ends up being fun or just crazy time consuming.
The book continues to chug along, just hit the 36k mark. Woot!
28K And Still Going Strong!
The new book is going well! After a brief rough patch over the weekend I am back on track and have now just crested the 28,000 mark for the new book! It’s interesting the curve balls that the characters throw at me and how the plot evolves into something new and hopefully better.
Someone asked me if I can post any excerpts from the books and truth be told, I’m not sure if that’s a good idea. With the goal of being published and hopefully (parts crossed!) to be under contract soon, I’m not sure what the ins and outs are for posting parts of it online. So for now I’ll hold off on posting any bits, but if anyone is interested in my writing style, I would direct you to check out my fanfics. (there’s a link to the right, over there…)
It’s turning into an interesting struggle to balance the writing for the book, the fanfic, some side writing with friends, work and family! I’ll probably be a ball of stress by month’s end, but hopefully with another completed book under my belt!
Rewrites Already?
Ok so remember how I said I wasn’t exactly in love with what I had so far for the next book? Well I decided that it just wasn’t clicking exactly, and scrapped the entire beginning; changing the POV to 1st person instead of 3rd. I’ve never really been a fan of 1st person POV, but I think it’s well suited for this particular story. I was able to save some of what I had written already, but a lot of it had to go which was hard to accept. But in the end I’m much happier with how it’s coming along now. I’ve just crested the 14,000 word mark now and it’s not even dinner time yet, so I’m chugging along ahead of schedule, even with that setback. I even managed to post another update for some fanfic today, AND even got out for a bit to go feed the ducks with my hubby and youngest and enjoy the sunshine, so all is right with the world.
In other news, I got a phone call yesterday from a literary agent who is reviewing Pretty Witches All in a Row and she seemed pretty interested in both that book and my writing in general. *does happy Snoopy dance* She’s going to finish reading the book over the weekend and get back to me, and I’m crossing all available bits (except for fingers, gotta keep typing after all…) that she likes it well enough to want to represent me.
Off now to make some dinner (linguine with spicy Italian chicken sausage and marinara sauce, mmm) and then it’s back to writing!
SeptNoWriMo Begins!
Starting with more of a whimper than a bang unfortunately. Work was crazy busy today, so instead of getting at least a few hundred words in there and being able to review the stuff I wrote before work, I didn’t touch it till around 7pm tonight after dinner. Still I managed to eke out 4011 words, still above my 3k word quota for the day so I can’t complain too much.
So far I’m not in love with how it’s going, but then again the beginnings are always the most difficult for me. Usually things start to flow a bit better once I start to get a feel for my characters and the plot. Hopefully tomorrow will go better and even if I can’t get to any of it from work I’ll be less stressed when I do get home. And then there’s always the three day weekend coming up, should be a good chance to get a big chunk of writing done.
Off now to re-read the next chapter of fanfic before I post it tomorrow, and check for any errors.
Zombie Writer
Holy cow… I’ve gone through some writing fests over the years, but have never felt so drained as I do right now. In anticipation of starting the new book on September 1st, I decided to power through the rest of my fanfic One Is the Loneliest Number, thinking I had maybe 3 or 4 more chapters to go – each averaging about 3000 words a piece. Easy over the weekend, right? Well six chapters (and a fair amount of RP with a friend) later I am just exhausted, ready to just veg in front of the TV and watch some mind numbingly stupid movie. I love stupid movies by the way, in case I’ve never mentioned it before. Amazon Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death… pure genius. Those silly movies from the 80′s that John Cusack was in, One Crazy Summer, Better Off Dead… some of my all time favorites. Throw in some musical numbers and it’s even better… Grease II anyone?
My new current favorite is The Lost Samaritan with Ian Somerhalder, who just looks pretty no matter how bad the film is, but suffers through the terrible script and even worse supporting cast (apart from the romantic lead, I liked her). I once read a review who said it looked like Ian owed a gambling debt to the director and was forced to repay it by doing this movie and I have to agree, the movie is a trainwreck! But oh so much fun! If you can accept that the “FBI” all have bad German-American accents and seemed to pick up their dialogue from bad 80′s cop shows. Oh and the liberal use of the American Flag and references to being in the US despite all the foreign plates on the cars and plenty other errors that reveal the film’s actual German heritage… just hilarious.
So there’s more I could go on about the subject, but the truth is that my hands are just killing me and I need the rest! I’m off to have a cup of cocoa, a couple of Tylenol and watch last week’s episode of The Gates.
Oh Fanfic How I Love You!
This weekend should prove to be a fan-fic-a-palooza as I try to wrap up my first Vampire Diaries fic One Is the Loneliest Number in time to start the new book in September. This is a bittersweet ending for me because I’ve had enormous fun writing it and the reader response has been fantastic. At last check I had over 400 reviews total and over 14,000 hits this month alone coming from people all over the world. (Who knew they followed Vampire Diaries in Morocco? How cool is that?)
It’s been a really fun ride, but all good things must come to an end. I’m not ready to completely end my love affair with fanfic. I’ll be continuing the other fic Wake Me When the Sun Goes Down as an outlet to blow off steam while writing Angel of Mercy and I fully intend to pick up in October with the sequel to Roadtrip. If I can find the time I want to get to some True Blood fanfics too but that might have to wait till December, since I’ll be writing the sequel to Angel of Mercy for NaNoWriMo in November. (Where does the time go?) I’ve also got other seeds of ideas for other fanfics out there but for now I’m just jotting them down to get to at a later date.
Of course the best laid plans might go astray if I get that call from an agent and need to work on revisions on one of the first two books I’ve got. Right now I’ve got 3 agents who have requested partial manuscripts of Moonsong for review and 1 publisher that expressed interest on the full manuscript. I have 1 agent who has asked to review Pretty Witches All in a Row exclusively and I just shipped her off the full manuscript last week. So if anyone out there is reading this, keep your toes crossed for me! (I’d never ask you to cross fingers, that’d get in the way of typing!)
